Citizens 2.0
One concept that definitely has been around over the past couple of years is how consumers are making an impact in today’s economy and, mostly, on how companies market their products or services.
It is hard to imagine a citizen enjoying a coffee and not having a laptop on the side.
It is hard to imagine a citizen enjoying a coffee and not having a laptop on the side. However I believe the concept of “consumers 2.0″ goes a bit beyond…from a perspective that those consumers have the capability to know from other cultures through the Internet, how about considering that today there are citizens 2.0. Why do I make this difference? Here are some reasons to support my rationale:
a. Responsibility. Today a citizen 2.0 is conscious about the responsibility of sharing content and uploading information to the Internet. There is a non-written code that the social media contribution ( mostly in Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, etc.) needs to be accompanied of a good sense of criteria of what to share and how to share it.
b. Sourcing. Related to the previous point you can see that a lot of the information that is being shared has a source that is included on the post or underneath the image. This simple action adds credibility to the citizen 2.0.
c. Awareness. In an era that all of us are overloaded with a lot of information, a citizen 2.0 knows how to sort and arrange information. However there is a high level of awareness regarding the most relevant topics affecting our life.
d. Collaboration. This seems like the most obvious concept but it is fundamental to compliment the rationale. A citizen 2.0 is a natural collaborator that likes to share his thoughts and perspectives regarding today’s reality. They love to read, write and comment in other blogs or social media so that they can start a two-way communication.
In the next few years more tools will continue to flourish to help citizens 2.0 evolve their role as determinators on how societies expand their horizons and interact among them.
I would love to read your comments.
